Brendan Donnelly: Will a People’s Vote on Brexit happen?

September 18, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Back in Stratford by popular demand after his previous talk last year, Brendan will be arguing that a ‘People’s Vote’ on any final Brexit deal is a real possibility despite the difficulties it will provoke and which lie in its path.

Brendan’s talk comes at a critical time in the countdown to the 29th March 2019 when Britain is due to leave the European Union for good, deal or no deal. With Theresa May’s cabinet and party more divided than ever it is looking increasingly like the country is spiralling out of control towards a disastrous Brexit.

All this when there is increasing evidence from a range of sources that the tide of opinion on Brexit is turning. For example, recent research by Sir John Curtice from Strathclyde University (he who famously predicted the outcomes of the last two general elections) indicates that if there was another referendum, the majority would now be for ‘remain’.

All of which highlights the timely nature of Brendan Donnelly’s talk. Indeed anyone who cares about how Parliament is going to save the country from the greatest post-war threat now facing it from Brexit will want to know how realistic the chances are of a potentially game-changing People’s Vote.
