SUMMARY:STEPHEN DORRELL: THE NEW NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO STOP BREXIT
DESCRIPTION:\nWith less than a year to go before Britain could end up leaving the European Union for good\, Stephen Dorrell will be speaking about the latest push to stop Brexit. This is happening now as a result of all the major pro-European groups\, including the European Movement\, Britain for Europe\, Best for Britain and Open Britain\, coming together in force to collaborate on a new campaign. \nABOUT STEPHEN DORRELL \nStephen Dorrell is the current chair of the European Movement and a former secretary of state for health. He served as the Member of Parliament for Loughborough between 1979 and 1997 and then for Charnwood from 1997 to 2015. \nHe most recently served for four years as Chairman of the House of Commons Health Select Committee from 2010 to 2014. In the 1990s he was a full member of Prime Minister John Major’s Cabinet for almost three years\, whilst serving as both Secretary of State for National Heritage and then Secretary of State for Health until the 1997 general election. He was also a Patron of the Tory Reform Group. \nSince standing down from Parliament in 2015 he has been the Chair of the European Movement in the United Kingdom. The European Movement is the oldest pro Europe group in the UK having been formed immediately after the end of the second World War and whose first President was Sir Winston Churchill. \nEVENT INFORMATION \nStephen Dorrell’s talk and question and answer session will be followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to chat informally with Stephen and other members of the audience. \nStratford-upon-Avon High School is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Stratford and a 10 minute walk from Stratford railway station. There are also more frequent services to Warwick Parkway on the Chiltern line (20 minutes by taxi to Stratford). For those coming by car there is ample free parking at the venue. \nDoors will open at 6.30 pm for a 7.00 pm start and the event will end by 9.00 pm. Admission is FREE but by advance ticket only available from Eventbrite.
